چکیده

OLSON, ROBERT M., AND DAVID K. SHELTON, JR. A nondestructive technique to measure wall displacement in the thoracic aorta. J. Appl. Physiol. 32(l): 147-151. 1972.-This paper presents a simple, highly precise, nonsurgical technique to follow aortic wall motion and consequently monitor pulsatile changes in thoracic aortic diameter. The diameter contours which result can be used in much the same way as pressure contours, because both contours are practically congruent. Pressure contours have been used to estimate cardiac output, to detect some valvular heart disease, and to detect such abnormalities of the aortic arch as coarctation. The technique utilizes an ultrasonic crystal mounted on an esophageal probe by means of a platform which can be tilted. Ultrasound is passed across the esophageal wall and reflects from the walls of the aortic arch. The reflected signals are processed, like radar, to track the position of the reflecting surface, i.e., the aortic walls.

Study of Pulsatile Non-Newtonian Blood Flow Through Abdominal Aorta and Renal Arteries Incorporating Fluid- Structure Interaction

Background: The interaction between the blood and the vessel wall is of great clinical interest in studying cardiovascular diseases, the major causes of death in developed countries. Objective: To understand the effects of incorporating fluid-structure interaction into the simulation of blood flow through an anatomically realistic model of abdominal aorta and renal arteries reconstructed from CT...

Measurement of vessel wall strain using cine phase contrast MRI.

PURPOSE To determine the feasibility of using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to non-invasively measure strain in the aortic wall. MATERIALS AND METHODS Cine phase contrast MRI was used to measure the velocity of the aortic wall and calculate changes in circumferential strain over the cardiac cycle. A deformable vessel phantom was used for initial testing and in vitro validation. Ultrasonic ...

Quantification of vessel wall motion and cyclic strain using cine phase contrast MRI: in vivo validation in the porcine aorta.

Artery wall motion and strain play important roles in vascular remodeling and may be important in the pathogenesis of vascular disease. In vivo observations of circumferentially nonuniform wall motion in the human aorta suggest that nonuniform strain may contribute to the localization of vascular pathology. A velocity-based method to investigate circumferential strain variations was previously ...

Mycotic aortic aneurysm as a postsurgical complication: report of a case and review of the literature

Mycotic aneurysms are localized and irreversible dilatations of the arteries caused by weakening and damaging the arterial wall by an invasive organism establishing infective arteritis. Mycotic aneurysm of the thoracic aorta is a rare event; however, it can be fatal if not diagnosed early or not treated appropriately. Clinical findings are usually nonspecific; however, c...

BULL ET-INDUCED FALSE ANEURYSM OF THORACIC AORTA WITH A TEN YEAR LATENCY PERIOD IN A VICTIM OF THE IRAN-IRAQ WAR: REPORT OF A CASE

Traumatic false aneurysm of the thoracic aorta is not uncommon. But accordingly this case is unusual in its ten year delay between injury and presentation and treatment. A victim of the Iran-Iraq war is presented with a false aneurysm of the thoracic aorta ten years after a bullet injury to the chest and thoracic spine. Penetrating chest wounds, mechanisms of injury and diagnosis are also ...
